About a month ago we received a great note from Run Rocker Katie Mitchell.  She was a big fan of what we’re doing here at Rock My Run and recently signed up for Team in Training.  For those not familiar, basically what the team does is fundraise for the Lukemia and Lymphoma Society and complete an endurance event at their fundraising deadline. In her case she is running the Nike Womens Half Marathon in October, and wanted to see if we could help her fund raise.

While we receive frequent inquires into these sorts of things, Katie went the extra mile (pun totally intended) and really gave us a sense for why this meant so much to her.  Here is what she wrote:

Help Katie and Rock My Run donate to Team in Training!I haven’t always been ‘athletic’ nor had I ever been a running enthusiast. . . But after experiencing a personal loss earlier this year, I set a goal to work on my fitness. So I started running, just going to the gym mainly to blow off steam and have some alone time. I kept hitting a brick wall at mile 3, and so I searched for something to help me push through. RockMyRun.com came to the rescue to get me to keep pushing my limits!

Then I found Team in Training.

Teams are made up of individuals. Without them, there is no team.

I have a mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, I’m participating in a sports endurance event as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.

So now, I run for the cure.

I run for those who can’t because they’re sick in bed due to chemo treatments.
I run for the people whose lives were cut short.

I run for, and with, amazing survivors.

We run together.

Together, we train to beat cancer.

We were so impressed by her story, dedication and commitment that we decided to donate 50% of all of our proceeds from credit sales on Thursday July 12th, 2012 to the Lukemia and Lymphoma Society in her name in order to help her achieve her goal.  You can help Katie by buying credits on that day from RockMyRun.com or simply going to her page and making a direct donation.

Good luck Katie!
